- The Purnululu Bungle Bungle and the Gibb River Road
The Gibb River Road is a 670 km long road which was constructed for cattle road trains. It is only accessible during the dry season (April - October). To drive on this road, a high clearance four wheel drive (4WD) is required. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any other tourists undertaking the same trip. So I had no possibility to get a lift or to share the cost of a rental 4WD. Nevertheless, I decided to rent a Nissan Patrol and go for the four day journey on my own - including the Bungle Bung
- Solomon Islands Inspiration Scheme
By Melinda O'Brien - The Body Shop Geelong Manager Participants brainstorm elements of good customer service and business signage. When asked to put pen to paper, in this case fingers to keyboard, and tell of my recent experiences in the Solomon Islands, I am at a loss for words. Now I can hear those who know me, sneer and scoff, however I do find it difficult to emotionally and descriptively connect you, the reader. Applying for the manager’s inspiration scheme for the second time, I did no
- Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles) (backdated: 09.08.2008 - 11.08.2008)
The road up to Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park was very winding and hilly, but nowhere near as rough as Mitchell Plateau road. Matt and Bec had left a note for us at the park registration station - they’d gone off on a two night hike into Piccaninny Gorge. We went and did a couple of shorter walks - the Dome Loop, Cathedral Gorge and the Piccaninny Creek Lookout - on the first day, and more on the second. Mini Palms Gorge was incredible, like something out of Jurassic Park - prehistor
- From my son’s play group: BORIS!
©jonas Imagine my pride (and slight concern) when my two and a half year-old son came home from play group the other day with this mixed-media caricature of the Mayor of London! All the kids were provided with a head shape, hair, a couple of eyes and some clip-art type cut-outs of noses and mouths. Much to my Mr Potatohead-loving son’s excitement. A rich helping of glue and some less than careful sticking later, and Boris Johnson appeared. I can only assume that the brown paint is a sa
- Enough with the damned Piccaninnies!
Holy Snapping Duck Do! I just returned from my daily swim on the beautiful Fijian beach and realised I have not updated this since long before Shakespeare wast a boy... You would not believe that my hands were chopped off and I was waiting for bionic ones. Apologies to my regular readers! Even the little blue ones! I am lost in a sea of pseudo-olde-english with keeping up with my favourite daytime soaps, choosing my retirement village, just generally being a biatch to anyone unfortunate to cro

Monday 16/6/2008 Day 20 We spent an hour showing the others the chasms and water-pool Allan and I had explored yesterday – then sadly (because it is so beautiful) we headed off down the Duncan Road once more. We stopped at Sawpit Gorge which was almost as spectacular as Marella. Allan decided to climb a hill just for the exercise! We then crossed to the other side of the road to Palm Springs Gorge but it was a little disappointing. Before lunch Val took us on a wild goose chase! She suggeste

- Bungle Bungle
In the end we spent a week in and around Broome, and that was about long enough for us. After getting our fuel injection pump back and refitting it, we tentatively started the Land Rover, expecting that we would be able to hit the road again. Unfortunately though, we still had diesel leaking all over the place. One of the seals that had been replaced was slightly too thin, and we had to wait 24 hours whilst the correct one was ordered from Perth and air-freighted up to Broome overnight. Luckily
- VAN'S TRAVELS CONTINUE
The famous "beehives" at Purnululu Here is just part of Van's latest adventures.... on his motorbike, through outback parts of Oz. I've left out some "dodgey" bits. Well, the next day we trundled into Purnululu National Park….don’t you just LOVE that name…p-ur-n-u-lu-lu…a beautiful name which they buggered up by calling it Bungle Bungles. Have you heard anything so beautiful as puuurrrnn…oo…loo…looo…and anything so ugly as Bungle twice. To make things better, one of my favourite words – picca

When I was a boy things were decidedly different in this country, it was a time of change and upheaval. Britain had emerged from WWII poorer, Empireless and weak and for those that had grown up in the most powerful nation on earth, this was quite a shocking change. For most the Empire was an abstract concept, they knew it existed, they also knew that it belonged to Britain, but for most the peoples of the Empire were conquered peoples, subjugated and in many cases deemed to be savage or prim
